YHDP must be Youth Led and Youth Informed. A requirement for selection and success of a YHDP community is the development and on-going support of a Youth Advisory Board (YAB), consisting of YYA with lived experiences of housing instability and homelessness. The YAB informs the direction of YHDP and takes leadership in all decisions made. YAB members are equitably compensated for their time and expertise. Our YAB is at the front of everything YHDP does,
YAB Statement
As the Michigan Balance of State Continuum of Care (MIBOSCOC) Youth Advisory Board, we envision that our communities across the MIBOSCOC will partner with us and the CoC to make strides towards creating permanent & stable housing, support, and resources for all youth experiencing homelessness and housing instability. Through the implementation of this Coordinated Community Plan, we envision the development of more spaces across our communities for our peers to gain independence and receive holistic support that prioritizes our physical and mental well-being. We envision the creation of new partnerships across the state with our Tribal Nations. Our hope is that these spaces can become a support network that sparks our communities to see the interconnected nature of homelessness across Michigan and activates them to come together to address the causes of homelessness. Never underestimate the power of hope. We know there is always more to do, and we are committed to our vision of making homelessness a brief, rare, and one-time experience for young people across the state of Michigan.
Do you know of youth or young adults who are interested in being part of our YAB or just helping us by giving their thoughts on services they experienced or needed? Anyone with an experience of housing instability is very welcome!
Please have them fill out this form and our YAB will get in touch as soon as they can!
